I'm LAMSA, which means “Touch” in Arabic. I'm inspired by the beautiful story of the
bleeding woman who touched Jesus' cloak and was healed. Just like the healing touch of
Jesus changed her life, I'm the champion of the Children-At-Risk program at the MENA
Trauma Healing Resource Center, bringing Jesus' healing touch to children across the
Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
I'm a multi-national, multi-ethnic child from the region who experienced firsthand
trauma and hardship. Alongside my family—my mother Hind, father Said, and my beloved boy
Omar, dog Anbar, and tortoise Jameel—I carry a deep passion for helping children
affected by trauma and displacement.
My heart breaks for the countless children who, due to trauma, conflict, and hardship,
are struggling to feel loved. I am here to remind each child that they are "wonderfully
made and loved" by God.

Did you know there are over 191 million children in our region, with nearly 52.7 million in desperate need and over 4,000 deaths of young people in the region due to suicide? Behind each number is a child facing immense challenges that require immediate attention. That's why I work tirelessly and am determined to build enabling environments in homes, schools, and communities.
Scarred physically and emotionally from a vicious dog attack, Omar used to isolate himself due to partial blindness and epilepsy. Today, he’s transformed—more expressive and eager to attend our sessions. His mother shares, “Omar used to stay home and isolate himself, but now he is always excited to come and participate in the sessions of your program.” This positive change has uplifted Omar and brought renewed hope to his family.
Forced to leave school to support his family, Alaa endures harsh conditions and abuse at work. Despite these challenges, he remains committed to our program. His mother says, “Alaa insists on attending the sessions despite his boss's disapproval. The joy and learning he and his siblings bring home makes all the difference for our family.”
Working as a vegetable picker to support her family, Manal has been deeply affected by PTSD from a traumatic dog attack. Through our program, she has found solace and channels her emotions into art. Her drawings highlight critical issues like early marriage and bullying, showcasing her resilience and creativity.
Through the safe spaces created by my Houses of Compassion & Rest program, I provide
trauma-focused activities like play, storytelling, and sports to help children
understand and manage their emotions. These spaces offer a secure, caring, and
predictable environment where children and adolescents living in conflict and crisis
settings can find peace amidst chaos, calming their minds and bodies when memories of
conflict or displacement overwhelm them.
Each child regularly visits for 3-6 months; during this phase, my team of mental health
professionals and trained counsellors guide them through trauma-informed practices. We
emphasize the importance of their early experiences, teaching them healthier ways to
express their feelings while maintaining predictable routines. Even after they complete
their trauma-informed sessions with us, we continue to support their healing through
follow-up programs and by training parents and caregivers.
Beyond the direct support, I strongly advocate for cultivating a healthy environment in
our communities through child-focused, trauma-focused media outreach and
capacity-building efforts to my local partners on the ground, such as local churches,
organisations and schools, so that they can take the lead with me. We explore stories
where they can find hope in their own experiences, and I show them how Jesus' love can
heal even the deepest wounds. It's not just about surviving but about thriving and
building resilience.
LAMSA is more than just a program—I'm a friend to every child I meet. Whether they’re refugees, displaced, or living in conflict zones, I remind them they’re not alone. Yet, my mission cannot be fulfilled alone. Together, we can create a future where every child feels safe, loved, and empowered to reach their God-given potential.
